NFC Keychain
Instructions

Thanks for trying out our keychain!

This NFC smart keychain is capable of doing many functions! Whether you just want to store useful info like a phone number, emergency contact, a short message in a simple note form, or possibly you'd like it to bring up a website or video link. Using the free app will give you many creative options! Setting it up is quick and easy — just follow the steps below.

Step 1: Download the NFC Tools App

Android Users:

  1.  Open the Google Play Store.

  2.  Search for NFC Tools (by Wakdev).

  3.  Tap Install.

iPhone Users (iOS 13 or later):

  1. Open the App Store.

  2. Search for NFC Tools.

  3. Tap Get to install.

Step 2: Open the App
  1. Open NFC Tools on your phone.

  2. Make sure NFC is turned on (most phones have it on by default).

Step 3: Write Your Contact Info
  1. In the app, tap "Write".

  2. Tap "Add a record".

  3. Choose "Phone number".

  4. Example: Enter your phone number, like +1 (555) 123-4567.

  5. Tap OK (or Add).

  6. Go to the main menu, under the sub-menu "Write". You should see the phone record you just added. Just above that record, Tap "Write". It will instruct you to hold your phone against the keychain. You’ll see a confirmation when it’s done. You're all set! Give it a try to make sure it works.

  7. We also recommend you set a password to ensure your information is safely stored and cannot be edited or deleted without your permission. It can be as simple as a PIN number too. Information can be updated or deleted as many times as you wish!

  8. The other option is to "LOCK" the tag. Just know, this is permanent and it causes a physical change to take place in the chip, so it can never be unlocked and the last saved records will remain part of the chip.

  9. You'll see many other options besides just adding a phone number. You may want to take advantage of some of the more advanced storage features and actions this NFC chip is capable of. Feel free to try them out, you can away delete everything and start over.

  10. If you would just like to leave a simple typed message, under "Add a record", we recommend using "Custom URL/URI". This does not need to be a website or link. You can simple type your message in plain text. We do NOT suggest using the "Text" option. It will store a message, but it adds it to the NFC specs/data and many times, when a card is scanned, it will only beep and not open the "Text" automatically, and must be manually looked at with the app. So in order to ensure your message gets seen by someone with the app, add your text message to the "Custom URL/URI" field.

*NOTE: Because we wanted our customers to have a quick and easy way to learn how to program their new keychain, we have preprogrammed each NFC keychain with a link to these instructions. At this time, please feel free to delete this record off your NFC chip.

Step 4: Test Your Keychain
  1. Exit the app.

  2. Tap your phone to the keychain again.

  3. Your phone will instantly show the phone number you programmed.

Tips
  • You can overwrite the NFC tag as many times as you want — just repeat the steps.

  • Want to store a message like “Tap for emergency contact”? Choose Text instead of Phone number.

  • Some iPhones may require you to bring the very top edge of the phone to the tag. Many Android's, such as some Samsung phones, the NFC reader is located on the back, either the middle or sometimes closer to the camera. Try moving the tag around to find the "sweet spot".

  • It's possible that some very thick cases, or anything metal, may not allow the signal to get through. Try removing the case if you are having any issues. The average case will not need to be removed to read or write the NFC tag.

One App,
Many Uses

If you have one of our NFC keychains, we highly recommend using the free NFC Tools app which will allow you to program a phone number, text, link, and so much more! No special equipment required as most newer generation phones already have this feature built in.
